A practical diagnostic sequence
Step 1 — Prove the Sheet
Where: Revit Sheet view
Do this: Confirm the title block, placed views and each view scale.
Check: The sheet itself is correct before printing or exporting.
Step 2 — Match the real paper size
Where: Print Setup or PDF Export settings
Do this: Choose the paper size that corresponds to the title block and use 100% output for scale-critical sheets.
Check: The whole sheet is not being resized to fit another paper.
Step 3 — Choose one PDF path
Where: Print or Export > PDF
Do this: Test native PDF Export and a PDF printer as separate workflows rather than mixing settings from both.
Check: You know exactly which output engine produces the problem.
Step 4 — Check Revit graphics and rendering
Where: Print/PDF settings and view graphics
Do this: Review Black Lines/Grayscale/Color, lineweights and whether vector or raster processing is required.
Check: The PDF appearance matches the Revit sheet.
Step 5 — Test the physical printer last
Where: Known-good PDF + printer/plotter
Do this: Print the verified PDF at Actual Size / 100% on matching media.
Check: If only paper is wrong, troubleshoot the driver, media and printable area rather than Revit view scales.
