Start here — what you are going to do
Your goal: Save plotting settings once so you do not reselect the printer, paper size, scale and CTB every time.
Where to go: AutoCAD > Layout tab > Output > Plot > Page Setup Manager.
Beginner rule: Change one thing at a time. After each important change, use Preview or create one test PDF/print before continuing.
Step by step — follow this in order
Step 1 — Open the Layout that needs a reusable setup
Where: Bottom of AutoCAD > click the target Layout.
Do this: Use the Layout that already has the correct title block and viewport arrangement.
Check: You should be looking at the sheet you want to standardize.
Step 2 — Open Page Setup Manager
Where: Output tab > Plot panel > Page Setup Manager, or type PAGESETUP.
Do this: Click New to create a setup, or select an existing setup and click Modify.
Check: The Page Setup dialog opens.
Step 3 — Name the setup clearly
Where: New Page Setup dialog.
Do this: Use a name that tells users what it does, such as A1 PDF MONO or ARCH D DESIGNJET. Avoid names like final2.
Check: The purpose of the setup should be obvious from its name.
Step 4 — Set device, paper, area and scale
Where: Page Setup dialog.
Do this: Choose the printer/PDF device, exact paper size, Plot Area = Layout, and Layout scale = 1:1 where appropriate.
Check: These basic settings should match the real deliverable.
Step 5 — Choose the plot style and orientation
Where: Page Setup dialog > Plot Style Table and Drawing Orientation.
Do this: Select the correct CTB/STB and Portrait/Landscape orientation. Save the setup.
Check: Reopening Page Setup Manager should show the named setup ready to reuse.
Step 6 — Apply it to another Layout
Where: Open another Layout > Page Setup Manager.
Do this: Set the approved named Page Setup as current instead of rebuilding all settings.
Check: Plot Preview should match the first approved sheet.
Step 7 — Move to Sheet Set Manager only after layouts work
Where: View tab > Palettes > Sheet Set Manager, or use the Sheet Set Manager palette available in your workspace.
Do this: Add already-correct Layouts to a sheet set and test a small publish.
Check: A sheet set should organize working layouts, not hide bad Page Setups.
A simple example
Standard PDF drawing set
An office can store an approved PDF Page Setup in a controlled template and use it as a Page Setup Override when publishing a sheet set. This is useful when individual layouts contain inconsistent local settings but the issued PDF must use one controlled device, paper and plot-style configuration.
When an override causes confusion
If a layout plots correctly when opened directly but publishes with the wrong paper or CTB from Sheet Set Manager, compare the stored layout setup with the active override. Editing the layout alone will not solve a problem introduced during the publish operation.

Naming standard
A practical Page Setup name should reveal intent, for example “PDF_A1_Mono”, “PDF_ARCH-D_Color”, or “HP-T-Series_A1_Mono”. The exact naming convention is less important than consistency and avoiding ambiguous names.
Overrides are not permanent layout edits
A Page Setup Override is powerful because it can control publishing without permanently rewriting every layout. That also means a sheet can look correct when plotted directly but publish differently when an override is active.
Sheet Set Manager boundary
Sheet Set Manager does not replace layouts. A sheet normally references an existing layout. Think of the sheet set as the project-level index and publishing layer above those layouts.
CAD management practice
Keep templates, CTB/STB, PC3 and Page Setup source files together under version-controlled office standards. A plotting standard is only repeatable when every dependency is deployed, not just the DWG.
