How to Publish an Entire AutoCAD Sheet Set to PDF

Publish an entire AutoCAD Sheet Set to PDF only after the sheet list, order, paper families and Page Setup Override are controlled. A three-sheet test can catch a bad CTB, paper size or destination before you generate the full package.

Start here — what you are going to do

Your goal: Create the complete PDF package from the approved Sheet Set and verify that every expected sheet is present.

Where to start: Open the project Sheet Set Manager and compare its sheet list with the issue sheet index.

Beginner rule: Do not start with all 80 or 100 sheets after changing an override. Publish representative sheets first.

Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD

Step 1 — Open the correct Sheet Set

Where: View > Palettes > Sheet Set Manager.

Do this: Open the project’s DST and expand the Sheet List.

Check: The correct project package is open.

Step 2 — Check sheet selection and order

Where: Sheet Set Manager > Sheet List.

Do this: Confirm issue sheets are included, draft sheets are excluded, and the visible order matches the issue index.

Check: The package contents are intentional.

Step 3 — Confirm the PDF Page Setup

Where: Sheet Set properties / Page Setup Overrides File, or Publish > Manage Page Setups as your workflow requires.

Do this: Use a named PDF setup based on DWG to PDF.pc3 or the approved PDF output device.

Check: The batch has a real PDF output recipe.

Step 4 — Publish representative sheets first

Where: Select an A1 plan, an A1 detail and any different paper/orientation sheet > Publish Using Page Setup Override.

Do this: Choose the approved PDF override.

Check: The edge cases are tested before the full batch.

Step 5 — Review the sample PDF

Where: Open the test PDF.

Do this: Check paper sizes, CTB/STB appearance, page orientation and scale-critical content.

Check: The shared publishing standard is correct.

Step 6 — Publish the entire Sheet Set

Where: Right-click the Sheet Set > Publish > Publish Using Page Setup Override > choose the approved PDF setup.

Do this: Choose the required PDF output location/options.

Check: The full set is queued with the tested setup.

Step 7 — Review the publish result

Where: Open the final PDF/package and any publish details/log.

Do this: Compare page count and order with the Sheet Set/issue index.

Check: The package is complete and predictable.

Beginner example

Before publishing 85 sheets, test an A1 plan, A1 detail and A3 schedule with the same PDF override. If those are correct, publish the complete set and confirm that the final PDF page count matches the expected issue count.

Understand what AutoCAD is doing

Sheet Set Manager publishes referenced Layout sheets

The DST organizes the sheet list; the drawing files still contain the actual Layout content.

The Page Setup Override is the shared output recipe

That is why one incorrect override can give every sheet the same wrong CTB, paper or device.

Page count and order are simple but powerful QA checks

A beautiful PDF package is still incomplete if a sheet was skipped or published in the wrong order.

When you need a more repeatable workflow

Use a controlled Page Setup Override source, stable output folder rules and a standard pre-publish checklist. Keep a known-good published package for comparison when drivers, CTBs or project standards change.

Frequently asked questions

Can I publish one multi-sheet PDF?

AutoCAD’s Sheet Set publishing workflow supports PDF package output; use the project’s approved packaging option.

Should I use Page Setup Overrides for every publish?

Use the workflow defined by the project standard. Overrides are especially useful when you need one controlled batch output recipe across sheets.

What should I check after publishing?

Page count, order, paper sizes and representative scale/lineweight output.
