How to Change Sheet Order in AutoCAD PUBLISH

The page order of a published PDF should be corrected in the AutoCAD Publish list before output, not manually rearranged after every issue. Move sheets until the list matches the official drawing index, then save the DSD when the package recurs.

Start here — what you are going to do

Your goal: Make the PDF page order match the official sheet sequence.

Where to start: Open the project sheet index and the AutoCAD Publish list side by side.

Beginner rule: Sheet number and list order are different things. A101 can still appear after A501 if the Publish list is arranged incorrectly.

Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD

Step 1 — Open PUBLISH

Where: Output > Publish.

Do this: Load the drawing and Layout list.

Check: All required sheets are visible.

Step 2 — Compare with sheet index

Where: Publish list + official index.

Do this: Find the first out-of-order entry.

Check: Target order is known.

Step 3 — Move sheets

Where: Publish list > ordering controls.

Do this: Reorder entries to match the index.

Check: Visible sequence is correct.

Step 4 — Check grouped drawings

Where: Sheet Name / file prefix.

Do this: Make same-named Layouts from different DWGs distinguishable.

Check: No duplicates are hidden.

Step 5 — Save DSD

Where: Save Sheet List.

Do this: Save corrected order for recurring batches.

Check: Future publishes reuse it.

Step 6 — Publish and compare

Where: Publish > PDF.

Do this: Compare PDF page order with index.

Check: Deliverable order is correct.

Beginner example

If the official issue order is G001, A001, A101, A201 and A501, arrange the Publish list that way before creating the PDF. Do not rely on filename sorting in the viewer.

Understand what AutoCAD is doing

Publish list order drives the package

PDF page sequence follows the list.

DSD preserves the list

That prevents repeated manual sorting.

Clear names reduce mistakes

Especially across multiple DWGs.

When you need a more repeatable workflow

Use the same project sheet index to control both Sheet Set and PUBLISH order and update the DSD when package scope changes.
