How to Print a Selected Area in AutoCAD
To print only part of a drawing, use Plot Area = Window and pick two corners. This is an area selection, not the same thing as selecting AutoCAD objects.

Your goal: Print one rectangular region without outputting the whole drawing.
Where to start: Model Space > zoom to area.
Beginner rule: Follow the steps in order. Do not change several plotting settings at once. After an important change, use Preview or make one test output before continuing.
Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD
Step 1 — Show the region
Where: Model Space > zoom to area.
Do this: Make sure all required geometry/notes can fit inside a rectangle.
Check: The intended content is visible.
Step 2 — Open Plot
Where: Ctrl+P > device/paper.
Do this: Set destination.
Check: Plot dialog is ready.
Step 3 — Choose Window
Where: Plot Area > Window > pick two corners.
Do this: Enclose the region.

Where: Plot Scale.

A reviewer needs only the revision cloud area from a large drawing. In Model Space choose Window, select a tight rectangle around the review area, use a suitable paper size and Fit only if exact scale is not required.
Understand what AutoCAD is doing
Selected area means a Window, not selected objects
In the Plot dialog, Window asks you for two corners of a rectangle. AutoCAD plots the region inside that rectangle; it is not based on the current object-selection set.
Choose the region before the scale
Pick the rectangle first, then decide fixed scale or Fit. This keeps area and size as two separate decisions.
Use a Layout for repeated areas
If the same region becomes a formal recurring deliverable, create a Layout and viewport instead of repeatedly using Plot a Window.

When you need a more repeatable workflow
Once this basic method works, stop rebuilding the same settings by hand. Save the proven choices in a named Page Setup for Beginners, use a prepared Layout when the sheet is recurring, lock any production viewport, and keep one verified PDF or physical plot as a reference. For larger drawing sets, move toward Sheet Set Manager or publishing rather than repeating a manual Plot operation on every sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Should I create a PDF before physical printing?
For many workflows, yes. A verified PDF is a useful digital checkpoint and makes reprints easier. Direct plotting can also be valid when the device workflow is standardized.
Why does a correct PDF print at the wrong scale?
The PDF viewer or printer driver may apply Fit, Shrink or another scaling step. Use Actual Size/100% when scale must be preserved.
How many sheets should I test before a batch?
At least one representative sheet, and more when paper sizes or devices differ. Approve the output path before sending the full set.
