Fit to Paper vs Exact Plot Scale in AutoCAD
Fit to Paper makes the selected drawing area as large as possible on the chosen sheet. Exact Plot Scale preserves a known measurement relationship. Use Fit for drafts; use an exact scale when someone must measure the drawing.

Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD
Step 1 — Decide whether scale matters
Where: Before opening Plot.
Do this: Ask whether anyone will measure distances from this print.
Check: You know whether Fit is acceptable.
Step 2 — Choose device and paper
Where: Plot/Page Setup > Printer/Plotter and Paper Size.
Do this: Set the real output destination first.
