How to Print Multiple Copies in AutoCAD
Multiple copies are a device/output quantity setting after the sheet itself is correct. Validate one copy first so you do not multiply a bad plot.
Start here — what you are going to do
Your goal: Print several copies of the same verified sheet safely.
Where to start: Layout > Preview > print one.
Beginner rule: Follow the steps in order. Do not change several plotting settings at once. After an important change, use Preview or make one test output before continuing.
Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD
Step 1 — Approve one copy first
Where: Layout > Preview > print one.
Do this: Check scale, paper, orientation and graphics.
Check: One output is known-good.
Step 2 — Choose the physical device
Where: Ctrl+P > Printer/Plotter and Paper Size.
Do this: Select the real printer/plotter.
Check: Device is correct.
Step 3 — Find the copy quantity in your device workflow
Where: Plot dialog or printer Properties/driver, depending on device.
Do this: Set quantity only after the one-copy test.
Check: The requested quantity is visible.
Step 4 — Check device-specific finishing if used
Where: Printer Properties/Custom Properties.
Do this: Use only supported collate/finishing controls required by the job.

Step 5 — Send a small quantity for expensive jobs
Where: Plot.

Where: If the job is many Layouts, use PUBLISH/Sheet Set rather than “copies”.

Check: Same-sheet quantity and multi-sheet output are not confused.

You need five paper copies of one verified sheet. First prove one copy is correct. Then set the copy count in the printer/plotter workflow; do not send five copies before confirming paper, scale, orientation and lineweights on the first one.

Copies come after the sheet is approved
First prove one output. Increasing quantity does nothing to correct a wrong scale, paper, orientation or plot style.
The copy control can depend on the device
Some output workflows expose quantity in the Plot dialog or in the printer driver/custom properties. Use the device’s supported control rather than assuming every plotter behaves identically.
Multiple copies are not multiple sheets
If you need many different Layouts, use Publish or Sheet Set Manager. Copies is for repeating the same already-approved sheet.

Once this basic method works, stop rebuilding the same settings by hand. Save the proven choices in a named Page Setup for Beginners, use a prepared Layout when the sheet is recurring, lock any production viewport, and keep one verified PDF or physical plot as a reference. For larger drawing sets, move toward Sheet Set Manager or publishing rather than repeating a manual Plot operation on every sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Should I create a PDF before physical printing?
For many workflows, yes. A verified PDF is a useful digital checkpoint and makes reprints easier. Direct plotting can also be valid when the device workflow is standardized.
Why does a correct PDF print at the wrong scale?
The PDF viewer or printer driver may apply Fit, Shrink or another scaling step. Use Actual Size/100% when scale must be preserved.
How many sheets should I test before a batch?
At least one representative sheet, and more when paper sizes or devices differ. Approve the output path before sending the full set.
