AutoCAD PUBLISH Uses the Wrong Page Setup: How to Fix It
When PUBLISH uses the wrong paper, CTB or device on one or more sheets, inspect the Page Setup column and the drawing's named Page Setups before changing geometry. Batch output repeats the configuration assigned to each sheet.
Start here — what you are going to do
Your goal: Make each published sheet use the intended named Page Setup.
Where to start: Open PUBLISH and identify one good sheet and one wrong sheet in the same batch.
Beginner rule: Compare the Page Setup names first. A batch problem is often a configuration mismatch, not a drawing problem.
Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD
Step 1 — Plot the bad Layout alone
Where: Open Layout > Preview.
Do this: Confirm whether its normal Page Setup is already wrong.
Check: Local versus batch scope is known.
Step 2 — Open PUBLISH
Where: Output > Publish.
Do this: Load the same sheets.
Check: Page Setup column is visible.
Step 3 — Compare good and bad sheets
Where: Page Setup column / Selected Sheet Details.
Do this: Read paper size, scale and named setup.
Check: First difference is visible.
Step 4 — Assign approved Page Setup
Where: Page Setup column.
Do this: Select correct named setup for the problem sheet.
Check: Batch sheet uses standard configuration.
Step 5 — Check external dependencies
Where: PC3, CTB, paper.
Do this: Confirm named setup resolves on this workstation.
Check: Setup is usable.
Step 6 — Publish a two-sheet test
Where: Good + fixed sheet.
Do this: Create small PDF.
Check: Both outputs match.
Beginner example
If 20 A1 sheets use A1-PDF-MONO but one sheet is assigned A3-PDF-MONO, fix the Page Setup assignment. Do not resize the A1 title block to make the wrong A3 setup look acceptable.
Understand what AutoCAD is doing
The Page Setup column is a key batch control
It lets PUBLISH use or assign drawing Page Setups.
A named setup can carry device, paper and CTB/STB
One mismatch can create several symptoms.
External files still matter
The setup can reference a missing PC3 or CTB.

Common problems and what to check first
| What you see | What may be causing it | Check this first |
|---|---|---|
| One sheet wrong | Its Page Setup differs | Assign approved setup. |
| All sheets wrong | Shared project setup or preset | Fix standard. |
| Setup name correct, device wrong | Underlying named setup changed | Modify controlled setup. |
| Works on another PC | Dependencies differ | Compare PC3, CTB and driver. |
When you need a more repeatable workflow
For recurring DSD/PUBLISH packages, enforce named Page Setup families by paper and output type before saving the DSD.
