Start here — what you are going to do

Your goal: Print Revit sheets at their intended scale without accidentally using Fit to Page.

Where to go: Revit > File tab > Print. For settings, use the Setup button in the Print dialog.

Beginner rule: Change one thing at a time. After each important change, use Preview or create one test PDF/print before continuing.

Step by step — follow this in order

Step 1 — Open Print

Where: Revit > File > Print.

Do this: Select the printer or PDF printer you intend to use.

Check: The Print dialog should show Print Range, Settings and output options.

Step 2 — Choose the sheets

Where: Print Range > Selected Views/Sheets > Select.

Do this: Select only the sheets/views you want. For a sheet set, clear unneeded views.

Check: The selected list should match the issue set.

Step 3 — Open Print Setup

Where: Print dialog > Settings > Setup.

Do this: Choose the exact paper size and orientation required by the title block.

Check: The paper size should match the sheet/title-block size.

Step 4 — Keep scale-critical sheets at 100%

Where: Print Setup > Zoom.

Do this: Use 100% when the printed scale must match the scales shown in the Revit views. Use Fit only when scale is not important.

Check: A 100% output should preserve the designed sheet size.

Step 5 — Choose vector/raster options only when needed

Where: Print Setup > graphics/processing options.

Do this: Leave normal vector processing when suitable; use raster processing only when view effects require it.

Check: The output should retain the expected graphics without unnecessary rasterization.

Step 6 — Print a small test first

Where: Back in Print > OK.

Do this: Create one PDF or print one sheet before a large batch.

Check: Open the PDF and check page size, scale and graphic quality before printing the full set.

A simple example

Sheet-size mismatch

If a Revit sheet is designed for one physical page but the print or PDF job targets another, later in the print process Fit or scaling can hide the mismatch while breaking scale. Match the output page to the sheet and avoid convenience scaling on scale-critical deliverables.

Vector versus raster output

A mostly vector sheet can become raster-heavy when view effects require it. If file size or print speed changes suddenly, compare the affected views and graphics settings before assuming the printer or PDF engine alone is responsible.

How Revit sheets reach PDF and paper

Do not copy AutoCAD terminology

Revit does not use CTB/STB for plotting. Its graphic hierarchy comes from Revit view/category/object settings and print/export processing. CADPlotting will link concepts such as paper size and scale without pretending the controls are identical.

Native PDF export

Autodesk documents PDF export from File > Export with selection of views/sheets and export setup options. This should be the baseline reference before recommending third-party PDF drivers.

Scale expectations

A Revit view has its own view scale and is placed on a sheet. The output sheet itself should preserve its physical size; later in the print process PDF viewer scaling can still distort a correctly exported sheet when printed.

Reference boundary

Model-specific printer and driver issues belong in hardware pages. Revit-specific pages should focus on sheet selection, view graphics, export/print setup and how Revit hands the job to the output layer.
