How to Include Hyperlinks in AutoCAD PDFs

AutoCAD PDF options can retain drawing hyperlinks and convert Sheet Set links into PDF hyperlinks. Enable the option when interactive navigation is part of the deliverable, then test the actual links in the final viewer.

Start here — what you are going to do

Your goal: Publish a PDF with working links.

Where to start: Use a drawing or Sheet Set containing a known working hyperlink or sheet link.

Beginner rule: First prove the hyperlink works in AutoCAD. PDF export cannot repair a broken source URL or sheet link.

Step by step — follow this in AutoCAD

Step 1 — Test source link

Where: AutoCAD hyperlink or sheet navigation.

Do this: Open the known link.

Check: Source works.

Step 2 — Open PDF options

Where: Export/Publish Options.

Do this: Find Include Hyperlinks.

Check: Setting is visible.

Step 3 — Enable hyperlinks

Where: Data section.

Do this: Turn it on.

Check: Links will export.

Step 4 — Publish a sample

Where: Plot/Publish.

Do this: Create one or two linked sheets.

Check: PDF is created.

Step 5 — Click links in the PDF

Where: PDF viewer.

Do this: Test representative links.

Check: Navigation works.

Step 6 — Check recipient context

Where: Document-control standard.

Do this: Confirm link targets are accessible to recipients.

Check: Links are deliverable-safe.

Beginner example

A multi-sheet PDF can preserve Sheet Set navigation links so reviewers jump between sheets. That is useful only if the final package keeps those targets valid.

Understand what AutoCAD is doing

Hyperlinks are optional PDF data

They are independent of layer information.

Sheet Set links can become PDF links

Useful for large packages.

External links can fail outside the office network

When you need a more repeatable workflow

For large Sheet Sets, include hyperlink testing in QA: one inter-sheet link and any external URL types used by the project.
